A New Day

It is six o’clock. The sun is up. Tom lives in a small village in Cambodia with his family.

Mother gets up first. She goes to the kitchen and makes breakfast. Father gets up, too. He washes his face and gets dressed. He works on a farm.

At seven o’clock, Tom and his sister Anna get up. Tom is ten, and Anna is eight. They wash their faces and put on their clothes. Tom takes his schoolbag. Anna puts her books in her bag.

The family eats breakfast together. They eat rice and eggs. They drink water.

At half past seven, Tom and Anna leave home. They walk to school. On the way, they see their friend Lina. She walks to school with them.

School starts at eight o’clock. The children are happy. It is a new day!

Remember how babies
learn a language:

Babies learn a language by listening.
They use their ears to hear sounds.
Their brain remembers these sounds.
Babies connect sounds with people and things.
They listen to their parents.
Then they copy the sounds they hear. They imitate words.
Slowly, babies learn to speak.
