The family: our main characters

The family

Father, mother, a 10-year-old boy, Budi, and his 8-year-old sister, Siti. They live in a village in Indonesia or Cambodia, in a house with a small garden.

The brother and sister

The boy likes football and playing with his friends. His sister likes drawing and looking after the family’s cat. They sometimes argue, help each other and get into small difficulties.

The family gets up in the morning. Mother prepares breakfast, Father gets ready for work, and the children get dressed for school.

Remember how babies
learn a language:

Babies learn a language by listening.
They use their ears to hear sounds.
Their brain remembers these sounds.
Babies connect sounds with people and things.
They listen to their parents.
Then they copy the sounds they hear. They imitate words.
Slowly, babies learn to speak.
