    Remember how babies
    learn a language:

Babies learn a language by listening.
They use their ears to hear sounds.
    Their brain remembers these sounds.
Babies connect sounds with people and things.
    They listen to their parents.
Then they copy the sounds they hear. They imitate words.
    Slowly, babies learn to speak.

    So,
    LISTEN, LISTEN, LISTEN, LISTEN………………

  • 👍⏭️A day at Dara’s family’s guesthouse, a long time ago (text, exercises, sound files, grammar: past simple, A1, beginners)⏮️👍

    • Dara remembers his life when he was 15.

    Past Simple

We use the Past Simple for an action that started and finished in the past.

    Example:

    • I lived in Cambodia when I was 15.
    • My father cleaned the rooms.
    • I went to school at seven o’clock.

    1. Regular verbs

    For most verbs, add -ed:

    PresentPast
    workworked
    cleancleaned
    helphelped
    visitvisited
    wantwanted

    Some spelling changes are needed:

    • like → liked
    • study → studied
    • stop → stopped

    2. Irregular verbs

Some verbs do not use -ed. You must learn their past forms.

    • go → went
    • have → had
    • eat → ate
    • come → came
    • speak → spoke
    • bring → brought
    • do → did

    3. Positive sentences

    Subject + past verb

    • I worked.
    • She helped her mother.
    • We visited the temple.
    • They went to school.

The past verb is the same for all subjects:

    • I worked.
    • He worked.
    • They worked.

    4. Negative sentences

Use did not (didn’t) + infinitive:

    • I didn’t work.
    • She didn’t go to school.
    • We didn’t eat breakfast.

⚠️ After didn’t, use the infinitive, not the past form.

    ❌ I didn’t went.
    ✅ I didn’t go.

    5. Questions

Use Did + subject + infinitive?

    • Did you work?
    • Did she go to school?
    • Did they visit Cambodia?

    Short answers:

    • Yes, I did.
    • No, I didn’t.

Every morning, Lina cycles to school. Since her school is a long way from home, she rides several kilometres each day. She is very fond of her bicycle.

Lina has always loved English, and she dreams of becoming an English teacher. Her main goal is to help the children in her village have better opportunities.

    1. Regular verbs

    For most verbs, add -ed.

Verb + ed = past simple

    Add only -d.

    learn a language:

Babies learn a language by listening.
They use their ears to hear sounds.
    Their brain remembers these sounds.
Babies connect sounds with people and things.
    They listen to their parents.
Then they copy the sounds they hear. They imitate words.

  • 💁‍♀️🐶😍Your thirteenth English text for beginners – Salas’s dream, chef in a ***** hotel (A1 beginners, personal pronouns, part 13/13)💁‍♀️🐶😍

My name is Salas. I live in a small village with my family. I live with my sister Lina. Our home is near a small farm. I love my village because it is peaceful and I can enjoy nature.

I have a big dream. I want to be a cook in a five-star hotel one day. My idols are Chef Chanrith (Shinta Mani/Siem Reap), and Chef Reza (Amanjiwo/Borobudur). I love making food for people. I want to cook tasty meals and make guests happy. I also want to be a cook who cares about the Earth.

I want to keep sustainability as the most important thing in my work. I want to use fresh food, save water, and not waste food. I want to use food from local farms and help farmers.

I learn many things for my dream. At home, I help my family in the kitchen. I wash vegetables, clean the kitchen, and help cook simple meals. I go to school and learn English because I want to talk with guests. I work hard every day because I want to become a great cook in the future.

Babies learn a language by listening.
They use their ears to hear sounds.
    Their brain remembers these sounds.
Babies connect sounds with people and things.
    They listen to their parents.
Then they copy the sounds they hear. They imitate words.

  • 💁‍♀️🐶😍Your eleventh English text for ‚very‘ beginners – Lina and Salas, visiting relatives (A1 beginners, part 11/13)💁‍♀️🐶😍1)

Lina and Salas are siblings. Every year, they visit their relatives. Their relatives live on a big lake. Some live in stilted houses. The houses are on long wooden poles over the water. Other relatives live in floating houses. These houses stay on the water and move a little with the wind.

First, Lina, Salas, their mother, and their father go by bus. The bus ride is long, but it is nice. They look out of the window. They see green fields, trees, small villages, and many birds. At last, they arrive at the lake. Their relatives are happy to see them.

The relatives live by fishing. Every morning, they go out in small boats. They catch fish in the lake. Lina and Salas watch them. Sometimes they help to carry the fish. Their mother cooks fresh fish for lunch. Their father talks and laughs with the family. In the afternoon, Lina and Salas play near the water. They watch the boats and feed the ducks.

They stay for three days. Then they say goodbye and go home by bus. They are tired but happy. Every year, they make the same trip because they love their family and the beautiful lake.

Remember how babies learn a language:

Babies learn a language by listening.
They use their ears to hear sounds.
    Their brain remembers these sounds.
Babies connect sounds with people and things.
    They listen to their parents.
Then they copy the sounds they hear. They imitate words.
    Slowly, babies learn to speak.
