How a ranger saved a deer from dying
The incredible story of a friendship between a man and a deer.
Many years ago, a park ranger named Jack was walking in the snowy woods of Alaska. He found a young deer lying on the ground near a tree. The poor animal was hurt in its leg and could not stand up.
Jack saw that the deer was bigger than all the other deer in that area, but it was almost dead.
“When I first saw the deer, I wanted to show the animal that not all humans are bad,” Jack told us. “So I gave it food and I stayed with it and spoke to it. I was happy to see that the next day the animal was already a little stronger than it was the day before. I gave it a name too, Swift.”
A few weeks later, the deer was much healthier. It went into the deep woods and started to walk away. It went into a part of the forest where the snow was deeper.
“I was a little sad when it was gone. But the next day, the deer was back. It was near my porch when I opened the door in the morning!”
The ranger and the wild animal became friends forever, and soon they started walking in the woods together.
“When I went into the woods, the deer came close to me,” Jack said. “I was a little scared first, but I felt better when I saw that. I knew it liked me. And I never felt scared again when the animal was near me.”

A mascot for our football team
Our school football team needs a new mascot to bring us good luck in our matches. Students are talking about two different animals to see which one is best.
First, some students want to choose a cheetah.
- Good sides: Cheetahs are the fastest land animals in the world. Speed is great for a football team because players need to run fast and score goals.
- Bad sides: Cheetahs are not very big or strong, and they get tired very quickly after running fast.
Second, other students suggest choosing a bear.
- Good sides: Bears are huge, strong, and brave. A bear mascot shows power and can make the other team feel scared.
- Bad sides: Bears can be slow and lazy, and they like to sleep for a long time during the winter.
Both animals have good and bad sides. In the end, the team must decide if speed or strength is more important for winning games.
