Last month, it was my best friend Maya’s birthday. She loves art, so I bought her a cool set of colorful pens. I also had a bag with my old, smelly football socks for gym class. I put both bags on my desk before going to school.

In the morning, I was in a hurry. I grabbed one bag and ran to the bus. At break time, I saw Maya in the hallway. I smiled and said, “Happy birthday! Here is your gift!”

She opened the bag with a big smile. But inside were my dirty football socks! She looked very confused, and everyone around us started to laugh. I was so red in the face! Luckily, Maya laughed too, and I gave her the real present the next day.
