Sophea is in her forties, and a general manager of a five star hotel in Phnom Penh.
Looking back at her childhood she remembers her plan, dreams, desires then.
When I was ten years old, I wanted to be a hotel manager. I liked hotels very much because they were big, beautiful, and interesting. In a hotel, there were many people from different countries, and I thought that was wonderful. I believed that a hotel manager helped the guests and made the hotel a comfortable and friendly place.
At that time, I studied hard in school because I wanted to learn many things. I knew that a good hotel manager needed to know a lot. I also practiced English every day. Many guests in hotels spoke English, so I wanted to understand them and speak with them clearly. To practice, I read books in English, I watched English videos, and I tried to speak whenever I had the chance. Sometimes it was difficult, but I never gave up.
I often dreamed about working in a big hotel one day. I wanted to welcome the guests when they arrived, help them if they had problems, and make them feel happy. This dream gave me energy and made me strong. Even as a child, I believed that if I worked hard, I could make my dream come true.
