Sometimes people do not tell the truth. It is not always easy to know when someone is lying. We cannot look at one small thing and say, “This person is lying.” However, body language can give us some clues. Body language is the way people use their eyes, face, hands, and body when they talk.

The eyes can sometimes show that a person feels nervous. When people lie, they may look away more than usual. They may look at the floor, the wall, or another person. Some people, however, look directly at you when they lie. They may want to look honest. So, looking away does not always mean that a person is lying.

The hands can also give us some clues. A person may touch their face, mouth, or hair. They may play with their fingers or move their hands a lot. Some people put their hands in their pockets or cross their arms. These things can happen when a person feels nervous or worried.

The face can also change when someone is not telling the truth. A person may smile when the situation is not funny. They may suddenly stop smiling and look very serious. They may also move their mouth in a different way.

The voice can change too. A person may speak very fast because they are nervous. They may stop for a long time before they answer a question. They may also repeat a question before giving an answer.

But body language does not prove that a person is lying. A shy person may look away. A nervous person may move their hands. A tired person may look different too. We should look at many things together and listen carefully to what the person says. Body language can give us clues, but it cannot tell us the truth by itself.
