Sophea is a happy grandmother, now remembering the times when she was a young, 10 year old girl.

She lived with her family. Her family was small but happy. Sophea had a mother, a father, and a little brother. Her mother’s name was Anna. Anna was kind and loved to cook. Her father’s name was Tom. Tom was strong and worked hard.

Sophea’s little brother was Ben. Ben was 4 years old. He was funny and loved to play with toys. Sophea and Ben liked to laugh together.

Sophea loved her family. They loved her too. They were always happy when they were together.

Topic: Asking past tense questions when the answer is the subject

  1. Normal past questions with “did”:
    • When the answer is not the subject, we use:
      Did + subject + infinitive?
      Example:
      • Question: Did she buy a book?
      • Answer: Yes, she bought a book.
  2. When the answer is the subject:
    • If the answer itself is the subject, we do not use “did” in the question.
    • Instead, we ask:
      Who + past verb?
      Example:
      • Statement: She bought a book.
      • Question: Who bought a book?
      • Answer: She bought a book.
