Is tourism good or bad for Cambodian culture? Some arguments (A1+/A2-), present simple)

  • tourism brings life to Cambodian traditions?
  • some thoughts, inspired by a discussion of the Shinta Mani Foundation youngsters.

version 1:

version 2:

Tourism is good because it helps people. Tourists come to see temples, markets, and villages. They pay for guides, food, and souvenirs. This money helps families and communities. People can also learn about their culture and keep traditions alive. For example, young people can learn traditional dances, crafts, and music because tourists are interested. Tourism can also help protect old buildings and temples. Without tourists, some places might be forgotten or destroyed.

But tourism can be bad too. Sometimes tourists do not respect local rules. They can make noise or touch holy places. Some traditions can change because people do them only for money. Many shops and hotels take space in villages, and some people move to the city. The culture can lose its original meaning.

In my opinion, tourism is good if people are careful.
Visitors should respect the culture and traditions.
Local people should share their culture in a natural way, not only for money.
If tourism is responsible, it can help Cambodian culture grow and survive for the future.
