Past simple – simple rules

We use the Past Simple for actions that happened before now and are finished.

1. Positive sentences

For regular verbs, add -ed.

• work → worked
• play → played
• clean → cleaned
• watch → watched

2. Some verbs are irregular

Irregular verbs do not use -ed. You must learn their past form.

3. Negative sentences

Use:
