Hi Anna,

How are you? I want to tell you about a typical day during Pchum Ben in Cambodia. It is a special time for families, and we visit the pagoda to remember our family members who are no longer alive.

I get up early because the day starts early. My mother prepares rice and other food for the pagoda. My father helps her in the kitchen. My sister and I help too. We put fruit, rice and other food into baskets.

At about seven o’clock, we have breakfast together. Then we put on clean clothes and get ready to leave. We take the food with us and go to the pagoda. Sometimes we walk, and sometimes we go by motorbike.

When we arrive, we take off our shoes and go inside. We sit with other families. We give food to the monks and listen to prayers. We also think about our grandparents and other family members who have died.

After the prayers, we talk to our relatives and friends. There are many people at the pagoda, and everyone is friendly. My sister meets some of her friends, and they play together outside.

Around midday, we go home. My mother prepares lunch, and we eat together. In the afternoon, we rest and visit some relatives.

Pchum Ben is not only about going to the pagoda. It is also a time for families to be together. I really like these days because we spend a lot of time with our family.
